chiark is Manx for hen.

The title Eaisht rish y chiark! is Manx for Listen to the hen!, which is always good advice for life. As we all know, chiark.greenend.org.uk is a computer dedicated to curing the dread Green End squarking disease of hens of the Isle of Man, so this seems entirely appropriate.

The logo is a genderqueer hen (okay, so when I drew it without the cockerel plume it looked like Toilet Duck) who is talking and to whom you must listen for your secret instructions.

(the form is chiark only under some initial mutating sound-changes. On its own kiark is the correct form, but the hen is, for example, y chiark. The Manx sentence given above is correct).

I'd love to know when the hen will be back from holiday, and if it'll bring some photos back for us to see where it has been. LNR

The hen has come back from holiday. She spent some time in a strange place called Twiddle-Wiki in a hotel called The Wwwroot-Static, and she was a bit lost, or rather I couldn't find her.

You probably already know this, but in New Zealand, we call chickens "chooks" -- it rhymes with "books." How close is this to how "chiark" is pronounced?

We pronounce it like chee+ark (as in cheese and Noah).
